It is mainly length and lining. Deux par Deux boardshorts sit at mid-thigh and its swim trunks sit above the knee. Hatley board shorts and swim trunks both have a mesh lining and drawcord waist, and the trunks add a faux fly and side pockets. Under Armour volley shorts have a built-in mesh brief and a looser, fuller cut.

Should my son wear a long-sleeve or short-sleeve rashguard?

Long sleeves cover more skin, while short sleeves feel lighter on hot days. Hatley makes both in 82% nylon and 18% spandex and lists them as UPF 50+. Deux par Deux short-sleeve rashguards and Under Armour Core surf shirts are listed as UPF 50+. Sunscreen and shade are still needed for uncovered skin.

Which boys swimwear is made for chlorinated pools and swim lessons?

How should I wash boys swim trunks and rashguards?

Check each label, since care varies by brand. Deux par Deux recommends a cold machine wash, hanging to dry and no tumble dryer or bleach. Under Armour Triblock volley shorts can be machine washed cold and tumble dried low, and Hatley swimwear is listed as machine washable. Pack a kids beach towel and dry boys shorts for afterward.
